{Pinterest Projects} Homemade Spray Starch

So, I've been on pinterest for a few months now and like most people on this website, I have a slight pinning addiction...mainly anything DIY, Cooking, or Helpful Tips {Follow Me!}.  I would be so daring to also say we pinners pin these awesomely creative projects in hopes to do them someday, but how many do we actually attempt to DIY? Well, I thought I would start small and try the Homemade Spray Starch I found on a quilting blog called Crazy Mom Quilts.  Since I have been quilting, I use more spray starch than I have ever used in my whole life.  Starch at the store really isn't that much to purchase...maybe $2-$3 the most, but Matt starches and irons all his work clothes and I use even more on fabric, so why not give it a try :)

Here are my ingredients - water, cornstarch, and fragrance/essential oil.  The original recipe said to boil the water for it to blend better, but I made 2 batches (one by boiling and one not) and they turned out the same. 

Now the original recipes called for 100% lavender essential oil.  I went to my beloved Hobby Lobby and they had several different oils to choose from, but right next to them they had Something Fabulous Fragrance which is used for homemade bar soaps.  I know it wasn't a pure oil, but I smelled the Japanese Lotus Blossom and it smelled so nice I thought I would give it a shot. They had tons of other great scents too, like cucumber melon, sweet pea, lilac, etc...

 Not bad huh? :)  It didn't leave any stains, which I was worried about since I did not use a 100% pure essential oil.  The fragrance smelled great too!

Yes, I made me a label :)  it was super quick to make, so you should give it a try!
