An Evening With Steve Martin

:: Photos from Tulsa World ::

I bought tickets to see Steve Martin and his Banjo 6 weeks ago for my husbands birthday.  One thing about my husband is that he loves music....well, "good" music.   Like I have said before, when it comes to music, he practices the art of Snobbery.  Don't ask him about any artist that fits in the category of "pop princess" unless you want to get served with some music knowledge. {FYI, I did see Britney Spears in concert and hit me baby one more time, I totally loved it}   Now, I think the best way to experience music is to hear it live {if possible}.  I have never truly listened to blue grass music before, so I was excited about hearing it up close and personal...and who better than a Grammy Winner?  Yes, Steve Martin won for best blue grass album.  I know right?  Well, bluegrass has a new fan.  I was so impressed with his band, The Steep Canyon Rangers - the way they played and sang as a group was far beyond anything I had ever heard before.  I also noticed how differently the banjo and guitar are from one another - not just how they sound, but how they are played.  When all you hear on the radio anymore is candy and/or other food items in reference to sex...or really sex in reference to anything and all done on a sound board, you can forget what talented musicians sound like.  I'm pretty sure I heard a song the other day with the words, "Imma disrobe you, then imma probe you..." That doesn't sound hot AT ALL.  Just because it rhymes, doesn't mean it should be a I right people?

Anyways, my first bluegrass experience was pleasant to say the least.  I always think you should be open to new things...whether it be music, traveling, hobbies, etc.  Never walk into a situation with a closed mind, otherwise you might miss out on learning something new about yourself.  A few years ago, I never would have considered seeing this show, but life is too short to limit your experiences :)

Have a good weekend friends!

I had a great time going to the show with the greatest wife a guy could ask for. After the past few weeks it was good to catch our breath and decompress with some good oh fashion picking and a grinning. Thank you babe for all you do. Laughing out loud smiley face wink!
