My First {Major} Quilting Project - Bookshelf Quilt

I'm usually the type of person that would rather make something for someone rather than keeping it all to myself.  I love love love gift giving and I'm not going to lie to you, if you squeeze out a tear, that's like the cherry on top.  Tear = 100% success!  LOL.  So, I decided to make a bookshelf quilt for my good friend and old college roommate Carol.  Her birthday is in December, so that gives me PLENTY of time for this newbie quilter to (hopefully) get this right.  Carol is an avid reader, so I thought a bookshelf quilt would be perfect...granted I couldn't find a step by step pattern online, so I just studied the ones people had completed.

Since college, I moved back to my hometown, so it's been a few years since Carol and I have hung out on a daily basis.  So, I emailed a few people (i.e. her hubs and BFF) I know that DO spend quality time with her for some assistance :)  Most of the things they said, I knew, but it was nice to know it hadn't changed.  Nothing they mentioned made me say, "Wha!?!?  Carol?!?  You think you know someone..."

Now, I know there is a chance she's bored and has nothing better to do than to read my blog, so I am just posting a few photos...it's nowhere near done!  It's been fun searching around for fabrics that remind me of Carol.  The sushi fabric I loved so much I bought enough to make like 10 more quilts.  Hmmm, a sushi quilt?  I don't know what else I would want to snuggle up with more! Well, maybe a cupcake quilt:)  Anyways, my sewing machine can do letters, so I've been trying to come up with ceative book titles.  Matt comes up with the best though.

I'll post the finished product...well, when I'm finished :)

That looks awesome so far!! I remember how frustrating it was sometimes when I was working on my first big quilt! SOOO rewarding when you sit back and look at the finished product. Thanks for stopping by my blog! I'll definitely be doing the same with yours :) Can't wait to see the finished product! Your friend's a lucky girl. I'm hoping to get a few lap quilts done myself for Christmas presents... We'll see how that goes :)

I can't wait to see the finish product. I really need to learn to sew. I'd love to make a quilt for my baby girl using her old baby clothes and whatnot once she is older! New follower here!
