Flashback Friday - New York 2008

Since next weekend I will be boarding a plane to  return to the Big Apple (for an undisclosed amount of time), I thought I would share a little of the last time I was there.  For our honeymoon, Matt and I went to Connecticut and NYC.  My childhood friend Anna was getting married, so we made a vacation of it.  Let's just say visiting the Yale campus will be the closest I ever come to attending an Ivy League College :) Anna though is one of my genius friends.

See, even their Burgers make you smart.  It was a delicious burger, Mmmm....
The morning after her wedding, we took the train into the city.  The train ride itself was interesting.  With every stop you noticed the working class boarding the train went from blue collared to white collared.   It was about a 2 hour train ride and by the time we arrived at grand central station we were surrounded by suits.

Since we only had one full day to spend there, we booked a bus tour and it was the best decision we made.  It was the smartest way to see NYC in just a few hours.  We saw all the major sites, such as Central Park, Rockefeller Center, Ground Zero, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, etc...

Matt's Favorite Moments

1.

He met Rupert.  You know, the guy that owns the deli next to the Ed Sullivan Theater
(Late Show with David Letterman)?
 2.
{All Things John Lennon} Matt is a HUGE Beatles fan so seeing the place where
John Lennon lived meant a lot to him.

My Favorite Moments

1.
Seeing the Statue of Liberty actually made me emotional.  Who knew visiting something
I had seen on TV my whole life would make me feel all weepy! Ellis Island was beautiful
and seeing the city from the Ferry was awesome.

 2.
Ground Zero.  It's hard to believe this year will be 10 years...

3.
{All Things Food Network}  This is where the chubby girl inside of me comes out.  You know that movie
Serendipity?  Well, this is where it all began.  They are famous for their Frozen Hot Chocolate
and their Gold Sundae that costs $1000.00!  Dylan's is owned by the daughter of Ralph Lauren.
It's nice to know she has such a love for candy...and Pop's Burgers :)
4.

All the snooty fa-looty stores we drove by.  I would love to have gone into Tiffany's though :)
 5.
Wall Street...ever heard of it?  Cuz that is ALL I hear on the news these days.  This is where lots
of money is made and lost.  My degree is in Finance, but I still don't understand all that is stocks
and investments.  It always felt like legalized gambling, but I'm not making hedge fund management
salary, so I like to keep the money I have.  Don't worry, it's not like I keep my
money in a hole in my mattress....or do I?
Besides central park, you are surrounded by buildings!

Well, this time around I will be there for business not pleasure.  I wish I was visiting under happier circumstances, but as they say, it is what it is.  Hopefully, I will have some free time to visit a few things I wasn't able to last time (Museum of Modern Art, go inside some of those buildings we drove by...) The thought of being away from my kiddo and hubs for such a lengthy amount of time just kills me, so I'm doing my best to block out the sad and remembering this too shall pass.  Hey, we've been through an awful lot in our short marriage, this is just another thing to make us stronger :)  Christian, you take this time to think about how awesome I am, ok? :) LOL.

I'm just going to live vicariously through you, my friend, since I've never been to NYC. I'm hoping it will be a short visit for you, but either way, I'm hoping it will be more fun than you expect and you do get some free time to visit a couple of cool places. You should watch Project Runway (just started last night) to really get in a good NYC mood. ;)

All your ny pictures just made me so happy! First of all- your pictures are gorgeous! :) Anyway- last time we visited, my boy and I spent the better part of a day roaming around Central Park and of course spent a whole lot of time taking in Strawberry Fields (he's a BIG Beatles fan too). And seeing the picture of Serendipity made me want a frozen hot chocolate so bad!! So delicious! :)

Cannot wait to see the new pictures. I have sadly never been to NYC or really anywhere for that matter. My husband wants to take me someday because he has traveled a lot.
